I feel like this tutorial is lacking. There's a lot more I want to talk about, but I feel like it gets too much like a lesson or a book. Ended up cutting a lot of text, and it still feels like there's too much.
That's kind of the point, actually. Foundational skills and knowledge do not change from medium to medium. It's true you could get this information out of a traditional art tutorial. However, if you're a young person who doesn't necessarily realize that digital art uses the same principles and traditional art, you're probably not going to go looking in the traditional art tutorials for information on how to draw or paint in photoshop. That's why I'm making these, and drawing or painting all of my examples in photoshop.
fair enough, i suppose im just saying, for those who were looking for a tutorial on how to paint in PS and already had this kind of information under their belt, it would seem a disappointment...
however as a guide on tone/value and that such, it is very handy...
I think it's great as it is! I wouldn't cut anything, I mean the purpose of a tutorial is to teach, and as far as tuts go, I've never felt that they had too much information. The more info, the better. Very well done indeed!
